Small and medium businesses face many challenges in today's IT environment. Shrinking budgets and smaller staffs coupled with the mounting pile of compliance regulation have meant an overwhelming workload on the average IT professional. While large corporations may have staff specialists in the various aspects of IT a smaller organization may have 3 or 4 team members to understand, deploy and manages everything. Virtualization is one of the technologies that can help smaller organizations cope with the increasing management workload. It does require a new understanding of the IT infrastructure. The hope here is that the Twin Cities Area SMB VMware User Group can help the understanding and implementation of VMware ESX(i) in those smaller organizations.

Virtualization can bring huge benefits to a smaller organization. While large corporations have engaged Disaster Recovery practices for years Smaller organizations have not had the resources to replicate the infrastructure. DR is just one of the incidental benefits to Virtualization that almost comes as a part of the package.

"Best practices" methodologies may be a goal but how do you implement a 10,000 seat template in a 200 seat environment.
