NEXUS INFORMATION SYSTEMS NOW IMPLEMENTING VIRTUAL DESKTOPS AS A NEW FRONTIER TO DESKTOP COMPUTINGNexus Information Systems Expands Its Offerings with VMware Solutions by Providing Virtual Desktops as a Manageable and Cost Reducing Solution to Buying New Desktops
MINNETONKA, Minn. - January 08, 2010 - Nexus Information Systems, a nationally recognized information technology provider of data center solutions including virtualization, data storage, networking, servers, and managed services, implemented a successful virtual desktop solution for Boyer Trucks, one of the largest truck dealer and parts distribution centers in the industry. By utilizing the very latest in VMware virtualization technology, Nexus Information Systems’ virtual desktop solution changes the paradigm of how and why companies purchase and manage desktop PCs. This solution allows for the repurposing of old equipment and the purchasing of more affordable PCs (known as “thin clients”). It also moves desktop management to the data center, which creates a centrally controlled, secure, and manageable desktop environment. This allows substantial time savings for IT staff, as well as significant cost reduction when purchasing PC hardware. Nexus Information Systems highlights the particulars of this solution in their recently released Success Story: Creating Manageability with Virtual Desktops at Boyer Trucks. Excerpts from Creating Manageability with Virtual Desktops at Boyer Trucks Boyer Trucks has over 200 desktops spread across 8 locations throughout the Midwest supported out of their corporate office with an IT staff of two. The problem was that supporting the desktop infrastructure was too time intensive with most of their day going to resolve user issues. They could never get ahead of the support issues because the desktop infrastructure was: 1. Too large with 200+ desktops, 2. Diverse with 15 different desktop configurations, and 3. often they had to physically go to the location of the workstation. They attempted to “band-aid” the problem by bringing in an outsourcing company to manage their desktop environment, but that solution wasn’t working due to the use of custom applications and slow service response. They needed a solution that would allow them to simplify their desktop environment to make it manageable all from one location. Nexus Information Systems approached Boyer Trucks about utilizing VMware View for a virtual desktop solution to resolve their problem. With virtual desktops Boyer would be able to centrally manage all their desktops from one location in an easy-to-use interface. “We liked the feel of View; everything looked familiar and made sense. Nexus then offered us a “get out of jail free card.” They brought in their equipment to our site for testing, and Nexus said we’ll prove to you we can do this.” “View gives me the manageability that we needed where I can do everything I need to do from one centrally located server.” Click here to see the full Success Story...
